WHAT IS RAKEBACK?

Online poker rakeback is known as:

rake refund
rake back
rakebacks
rake rebate
rake share
rake rebates
rake refunds

All the various pokersites want to increase their real money poker players. But advertising can be expensive, so instead they bring on affiliates.

These are people or companies that are provided with monetary compensation for every player they signup for a site. An example:

Pokersite XYZ wants more players on their tables. John signs up as an affiliate, and is told that for every player who signsup through his link or with his code, he'll receive 33% of the revenue that player generates for the lifetime of their account.

Now John has an incentive to signup new players to Pokersite XYZ. But he needs an incentive to get players to use his links or codes. So he tells the players "hey, I'll give you 30% rakeback every month for life!" and thus is able to keep a small profit per player for himself to cover administrative and advertising costs, plus make a profit as well.

The pokersites win because they get more active players. The affiliate wins because he makes a profit, and the player wins because they could've just signed up on the site without a rakeback program at all, throwing away all that free money every month!

WHAT IS PROPPING?

A poker prop is someone whom the pokersite pays to play. Usually this requires that you are one of the first players to sit down and start a game. Because you help get tables started and typically play short-handed in doing so, the sites will pay you either an hourly rate, a per table rate or sometimes even offer you 100% rakeback or more!

HOW MUCH CAN I MAKE?

That depends on what your rakeback percentage is, how often you play, what limits, etc. Use our handy rakeback calculator to find out what you can make each month!

CAN I GET THESE PROGRAMS AT MORE THAN ONE SITE?

You sure can. Many of the biggest earners in online poker today maintain accounts at many of the popular sites, and play where they find good games and deals. You can also play at more than one site at a time if you wish.

WHAT ABOUT SIGNUP OR DEPOSIT BONUSES?

This varies by site, but you can be part of rakeback programs and still receive deposit and signup bonuses. Most of the time this is deducted from your MGR, which will lower your rakeback payments, but not as significantly as you might think.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN MGR?

I'd be happy too. MGR stands for Monthly Gross Revenue. This is the amount of rake you paid at a site over the course of the month, after any deductions are made for bonuses, promotions, etc.

An example would be that you generate $1,000 in rake over the course of the month, this is your MGR. If you received 25% rakeback, you'd normally receive $250 back that month.

Now let's say you happened to receive a $100 deposit bonus that month as well. It is not taken out of your $250 rakeback payment. It is deducted from your MGR, which was $1,000.

This means your effective MGR for the month is now $900. So you receive 25% rakeback on that, which means you still get a $225 rakeback payment PLUS the $100 deposit bonus!

WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT AT A POKERSITE?

Some pokersites will allow you to obtain a new account for rakeback purposes, most will not.

They already have your business, so there's no incentive for them to use rakeback programs to bring you to their site since you're already there!

All is not lost though. There's no reason why your family members (wife, brother, etc) wouldn't also want to play poker on the same site, and perhaps you share a computer and/or funding source?

Your best bet is to contact one of our rakeback providers and let them know your situation, and that you saw them @ RakeReport.net They will be able to provide you with the best advice for your unique situation, their goal is to do everything they can to get you a rakeback deal!

WHY CAN'T I JUST BE AN AFFILIATE MYSELF?

That's a great thought, but there are a number of problems you face:

You Cant Signup For Rakeback Through Your Own Affiliate Account

The pokersites aren't stupid. They don't want a bunch of players creating an affiliate account to get rakeback for their own account. They want their affiliates actively bringing in new players.

As an affiliate you can't sit back and just have you and a few buddies collecting rakeback, the pokersites will likely dump you as an affiliate. Plus, none that we're aware of permit an affiliate to provide rakeback to their own accounts. So affiliates constantly have to be advertising and bringing in new players.

Competition Already Established

There are affiliates who have been offering these services for years. Many of the pokersites place a cap on the percentage of rakeback their affiliates can offer to players.

So a site that has thousands of players under their rakeback program is typically able to offer a ton of extras that a new affiliate cannot. If you signup as a rakeback affiliate, how can you compete?

Both yourself and the more established affiliate will be capped at "xx%" to be offered to your players. So you can't beat them there. And the larger affiliates offer extras such as freerolls, WPT and WSOP packages, etc.

Not to mention that some pokersites might start a new affiliate on a lower percentage than established affiliates (i.e. the established affiliate is paid 30% revenue and can thus pay their players 27%, but new affiliates are only given 25% until they prove themselves)

So How Can I Compete?

Well, you can choose to just signup for a rakeback program and play poker. You don't have to deal with customer service, player payouts, etc. But if you really want to get into the rakeback affiliate business you can signup as a sub-affiliate.

Many sites allow existing affiliates to bring on sub-affiliates who work with them. By working as a sub-affiliate you gain access to all the knowledge and resources of an already established poker rakeback business, and you're able to offer the higher percentages right away.

The larger affiliates don't mind bringing on sub-affiliates because they need to keep new players flowing in, so giving up some of their revenue to sub-affiliates is worth the increased exposure and growth.
